The Opportunity
As Head of Programmes for Trócaire Sierra Leone you will guide and oversee the exciting programme work that Sierra Leone is supporting. In Sierra Leone, Trócaire’s key programming areas are to achieve climate and environmental justice; ensure women and girls’ protection, voice amp; influence; and save lives and protect human dignity. In addition, Trócaire supports work on the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, promote women’s political participation and leadership, sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment, natural resource management and environmental conservation, and humanitarian preparedness and response.
Trócaire has an exciting and well-established program and is exclusively working with local partners and is funded by 4 major donors. A key component of Trocaire Sierra Leone’s work is to support local civil society organisations to strengthen their organisational, institutional, financial, technical, and managerial capacities. Trócaire’s Sierra Leone draws support from, Trócaire’s global hub on partnership and localisation based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Trócaire Sierra Leone is at the fore of Trócaire’s organisational efforts to improve the lives of women and girls in the country and has been instrumental in supporting the GEWE Bill and the development of the 2023 Sierra Leone Women’s Manifesto. The Sierra Leone team also supports initiatives to drive climate and environmental justice. Sierra Leone is a member of Trócaire’s Climate Change and Gender Portfolio with Rwanda, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.
The Head of Programmes role is an existing role responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of strong thematic programmes that meet internal and external programme quality demands. The Head of Programmes coordinates technical and thematic support with global advisors and teams and ensures that the Sierra Leone team engages with the global organisation. The exciting and fast-paced role ensures that programmes align with Trócaire’s policies, incorporate research and innovation, and inform policy and advocacy work locally and internationally.
Reporting to Country Director, this is a fixed-term one year maternity cover located in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The Head of Programmes currently manages a team of eight professionals. This role entails frequent travel to partner, project, and community sites and periodic travel outside Sierra Leone.The Head of Programmes will also be a member of the Country Management Team (CMT).

Requirements
You will report to the Sierra Leone Country Director. This job opportunity will be offered on an unaccompanied Fixed Term Contract for 1 year and is based in Freetown, Sierra Leone. As part of your role, you will manage a team of 8 professionals.
